Hi
Just wanted to say I love the optin footer its fab.
I have been having trouble getting the footer to be viewd in windows explorer was wondering if anyone can help with that.
Thank you
Kind regards
Jayne
Hi Jayne,
You have an error in some other javascript (looks like ezs3) and that delays the optincrusher in internet explorer. Aside from that I can view it fine in IE. Hope this helps.
Hi Daniel,
Watching your videos it seems like it should just appear, but doesn’t seem to on my site. Any thoughts?
Nice looking plugin. Have installed it, but cannot get it to work. No errors. Everything looks fine. Just not showing up. Looking for an on/off switch or something silly I am overlooking
Thanks for your help.
Chris
Your theme appears to have left out the call to wp_footer, which is the hook that includes the optincrusher in your page. You should be able to add that back in the theme using your theme editor.
This troubleshooter may help you: http://helpdesk.danielwatrous.com/index.php?_m=troubleshooter&_a=steps&troubleshootercatid=1&parentid=0
Hi Daniel,
Did that and got it to work. Thanks. Seems to be okay on Firefox, but not IE8. Not showing up at all. Sorry to be a pain, but again, it looks like it should work, but isn’t.
Thanks,
Chris
I have had the same problem. Did check and the wp-footer is in the theme files. Did send a support ticket but ????
Would love to get this thing working.
Thanks
Hi Judy,
You should get a response to your ticket soon. I think in your case you actually have wp_footer in your theme twice. Removing one should take care of it.
Daniel,
My theme has the wp_footer hook and still I can’t get the Opt-in Crusher to work.
Marcus
I’m not sure if it might be another conflict in the theme or a conflicting plugin.
Try changing the theme or disabling some other plugins to see if you can find the conflict.
hi there,
what a great plugin this is! i customized to use it on my website for the dutch market of teaching people to play piano. my question is the following: when the lightbox shows up, i can’t get the optin form to be aligned.
i use mailchimp and the non-format html code, i tried everything i could think of but the form still is not aligned. you can see it at http://pianolesonline.com
can you please help me with that? I would very much appreciate it!
Thanks again for this great plugin!
Cheers
I have a WPD blog and a site that is not WP. Can I install this for those sites? If so, do you have and written or video instructions for that?
Any assistance is appreciated.
Mark,
optincrusher currently works only on wordpress sites (though there is a generic version coming). As far as WordPress Direct, I haven’t tried. Maybe I should try to contact Marty and get it on to his network. However, I think you can still install the plugin following the standard installation video on this page.
Hey,
I just found out about optincrusher a couple weeks ago and installed it to test it out. It is super sweet. I run a hybrid site with static pages, and WordPress.
Thanks to your cool plugin and it’s ease of use I was able to set it up in WordPress then copy the codes to common includes on my main site and get the slide up running on both sites. Works great.
If you are working on a generic version for non WordPress sites, cool. Until then, I wrote a tutorial on how to get it on a non WordPress section of a site. You can read about it here:
http://www.creativecompulsions.com/blog/optincrusher-outside-of-wordpress/
Thanks again for a cool tool!
Myles
Nice Work Myles. Thank you.
Hi this is a fantastic idea, but need to know are there two different downloads as i cant get this to work in wp 3.0.3 for love nor money, have tried everything, and now i think maybe there are two version, i even changed my theme , but still i have a white dot, what have i done wrong? thanks
Hi Anne,
It looks like you did everything right and the optincrusher appears. However, the display of the form isn’t quite right. Some how an unprocessed form seems to have made it in. http://screencast.com/t/KcKdnh22
Maybe you need to enable for admin users while you test it.
Anne
You need to redo your optin form. If you click the Lightbox version you will see you have 2 forms. The standard one (with the dashed border, and your custom one on top of it. Because of your custom form, with a custom submit button, your slide up form is not displaying correct. All you see is the top of your custom button. Lose the Instant Access button as it does not work in that format.
Myles
I just downloaded this plug in.
Thank you. You have made my day.
Daniel
Was having a strange issue with the plug-in in IE versions 6 and up. The opt-in crusher plugin had this inside the optincrusher_IEhack.css file:
#footer {
position: absolute;
z-index: 100;
overflow: hidden;
}
I changed it to:
#optincrusher #footer {
position: absolute;
z-index: 100;
overflow: hidden;
}
And all is good now. Just though I would pass this along incase others had a strange issue with their footer being in weird places when viewed in internet exploder.
Dale
Installed this but it isn’t working… not really sure what’s wrong. Tried to click on troubleshooting section link and it didn’t work, and the help desk link didn’t either. Anything I can do to get this to work? Thanks.
Andy
HA! I figured it out. My own stupidity was the problem, it turns out… I was still “logged in” to my WP back-end on another tab and the option to hide the bar while logged in was checked. It’s all working now.
Thanks for the update Andy. I’m glad you got it working!
When I try to Activete showme a menssage you don´t have access to this pluging and I can´t do any
more thing en the admin panel I most to go ftp and delete you know anything that can help me?
Hi Dan GREAT plug in. I’m using it on my Xsite page tapping into the word press plug in as mentioned here:
The only problem I am having is when the arrow is clicked I get:
Not Found
Sorry, the requested URL /URLONCLICK was not found on this server.
http://www.warrior-scholar.com
Is there a way I can fix or get around this?
Thanks
Dan,
To fix this you’ll need to go in and remove the onclick call to URLONCLICK mention. I’ll try to put together a better answer at some point to help others with this. The majority of folks won’t experience this problem.
Thanks Dan, if you can give more clear instructions I’d appreciate it. Also for some reason it’s all wonky in I.Explorer. The fields are in the header and the slide up footer is malfunctioning.
http://www.warrior-scholar.com
Thanks this is a great program you should take donations for it.
Dan,
Go into the plugin editor. Choose optincrusher. Select the file optincrusher_templates.php. Remove the text that I mentioned.
Here’s a screenshot that should help: http://optincrusher.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/optincrusher-fix.png
Hi Daniel,
Just so you know, I was getting loads of Google Crawl errors coming up since I installed the plugin. Basically they are the Blog URLs with /URLONCLICK appended. The errors were “Not Found” / 404 errors. Have applied your fix and hopefully that will solve it. Thanks again for an excellent plugin (and support!)
Hi,
I’ve installed the optincrusher – works fine in Firefox but doesn’t show in IE. Tried your troubleshooter and submit a ticket links and they are not working. Would love to resolve this issue in IE.
Thanks.
It’s working in IE for me. When the new version comes out eventually I’ll double check IE.
Can you check the site I am working on using IE on your computer? I’ve tried all three of my computers.
Can see the bottom bar in Firefox but not IE.
Thanks.
Hi
I tried to install optincrusher on my site, but I think it has not added correctly to the footer file. It does not appear at all.
Can you please tell me where I can find the code that I should add to the footer to make it appear?
Did you try the troubleshooter mentioned earlier in the comments on this thread? That’s the best place to start.
Hi Dan,
The troubleshooter mentioned above is a dead link. The message [User Error]: _mtroubleshooter_astepstroubleshootercatid1parentid0 not found (includes/functions.php:29) is displayed on the page.
I appear to have everything installed correctly and have wp_footer (); in my theme’s footer php but still no optin crusher. Please help!
Here’s the updated link to the troubleshooter:
http://helpdesk.danielwatrous.com/index.php?/Troubleshooter/Step/View/2
Thanks Daniel. I think I’ve narrowed it down to the . When I place that into my footer.php of my arras theme, it repeats two attribution links from other plugins but still doesn’t show the opt-in crusher. I’ve moved the around but it still only moves those two links.
Your comment took out the php. the code was ?php do_action(‘wp_footer’); ? in my arras footer.php
Hi Daniel,
This looks like a great plugin – thanks.
However, it just doesn’t show up on my wordpress blog. The wordpress theme already has the wp_head() call.
I tried submitting a ticket but your helpdesk site seems to be unavailable at this time.
Will appreciate your help.
Thanks.
I just checked and it comes up fine in FireFox. IE seems to be an issue. Also, I maintain an optin form on my website homepage. How can i include the same form in the optincrusher footer so that the entry can be made in the main database itself? thanks.
You just need to copy and paste the form into the settings in optincrusher.
Dan,
Where’s the PayPal “Donate” button – I need to buy you a pint of your favorite ale my friend
Optin Crusher solved a huge problem for me (an easy to configure opt in plugin). “Free”!! I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop. I sure hope you have link in that plugin – more than happy to give your site some “link juice.”
Thank You!
Mike
I finally have the “Crusher” working! However, the name fields are too big. I shrank them in mailchimp but they didn’t change in opt-in. Any suggestions?
You could use css editing tools in chrome or firefox to adjust the settings then carry those over to the main plugin css. I think recent versions of IE even have some tools available.
Thanks Daniel but I just went with a first name and email (it was the last name field that pushed everything off screen). However, I’m still having a problem with the Error 404 not found when I click on the arrow. I deleted the URLONCLICK mention in the templates php but that didn’t seem to fix it.
Any other suggestions?
You can remove that onClick from the element near the URLONCLICK. Other than that it all seems to be working very well.
Will that still give me the lightbox window when people click on the arrow? I’ll test it in Dreamweaver since I can undo the edit there.
And yes, other than this one last issue it appears to be working very well. I didn’t even have to customize the bar. What you see is straight out of the box sort of speak. Kudos.
Funny. For some reason it appears to be working fine now. I’ll be adding some link love your way!
Thanks for all you help.
Marcus
what are you using to protect the post content, i.e, where you enter the password?
It’s wordpress’s built in password protection feature.
FYI – crusher just crushed my 3.1.x WP multi site with the plug networked activated.
Jason, that’s right. It doesn’t work on multi-site installations. I’ll keep this in mind for a future version.
It installed as a stand alone but I can not get it to show and the show when logged in is ticked.
ok it finally worked I need to refresh my cache.
Jason, did you get the plugin to work with WP Multisites? I just installed it via Network Admin (I’m currently using Wp v3.1.3) and FTP and it crashed the site both times! I would love to have optincrusher in my sites. Any help on how I could get this to work with multisites would be so much appreciated!
Thanks in advance
I have had it working on WP 3.2.1 multisite for almost a year. However, it does not work on 3.3 or 3.3.1 in multisite mode,
It really needs to be updated to work in the current version / with multisite. As WP changes so does the need to update your plugins.
Turn the project over to someone that has the time to upgrade it and put it on the WP site.
This is a great plug and works well but it will soon loose any value to Daniel if it becomes obsolete.
I can’t get it to work. Although I do have the wp_footer hook, it’s not showing up and the Show to logged users is set to Yes.
I tried a few things around but without luck. I am on the latest WP using a paid theme.
Mitko,
Have you seen the troubleshooter? http://helpdesk.danielwatrous.com/index.php?/Troubleshooter/Step/View/2
You could check to see if it’s your theme or plugin by changing things a little.
Would I be able to add a paypal or buy it now Or don’t use for optin and just add in BIN option?
You can put any HTML you want in the footer. A paypal code should work fine.
hi,
love the plug in – quick question. how do you get the HTML code to work with Mad Mimi email? it keeps messing up the submit button when you click to process the HTML.
thanks!
-jeff
I haven’t tested with mad mimi. You may have to condition that on your own and paste it directly into the lower form.
Hi Daniel,
Found you site on Google and recently installed opt in crusher. It’s awesome!!!
Question for you. I cant seem to turn off pages or posts?
For example… In the “Exclude post/page” box I have been putting…
http://www.website.com/about-me
“about-me”
“/about-me”
And then saving it.
It is not turning it off.
Thanks.
Eric,
You’ll need to provide numbers there. When you go to edit a page you can look in the URL to see what the ID number is for that post/page. It’s that number you need to use to exclude.
Wow… Never noticed the numbers before… LOL. Thanks.
Hi,
The plugin is awesome but i have a problem. How can i use optincrusher outside wordpress ?
Cheers
Ivan
Ivan, just scan up the comments. There’s a link above from someone that uses it outside wordpress.
Hi Daniel,
How do I edit the optin crusher on a live site. Is there an offline option available so that is not live on my site while I am editing it?
You can use a tool like the console in Chrome or web developer tools in Firefox to see how changes would look.
Hi Daniel,
Is it correct, that every time I create a new page, or post, I have to exclude that post or page so the opt-in crusher will not display? Or is there a way to select in advance on what pages / posts it will display on.
I wish there was an display only on ____ post/page option. Or is there that option now?
Thanks.
Eric,
You would have to add each one. At this time there isn’t any way to specify a list of includes.
Hi Daniel,
Your plugin looks cool. I have the same problem as Chris. Have installed it, but cannot get it to work. No errors. Everything looks fine. Just not showing up. Any advise?
Much appreciated.
Thanks for your help.
Look above for the link to the troubleshooter.
Daniel, Thanks for this wonderful tool! Is it possible to run more then one instance on the same domain? For example, one for a general newsletter and another for a whitepaper download? many thanks
Dave, not in its current form. There is just one global version for the entire site.
I am getting a fatal error every time I try to activate the plugin. I have tried on a couple of different sites.
Any ideas?
Thanks for a great product! I’ve successfully installed it and it’s working great. The only issue I have is with the “subscribed visitor” cookie – it doesn’t seem to be doing anything. I’ve checked the thank you page, and I see this:
setCookie(‘oc_subscribed’, 1, ‘/’, 365);
So I assume a cookie is being set, but the Optincrusher still appears after I’ve loaded the page with the setCookie in it. Do you have any suggestions on troubleshooting this?
Thanks!
Alison
Hi Alison,
Have you verified that the setCookie function is in the page also and that the cookie is set? It may also be showing still if you are logged in as admin. Have you tried it in a browser where you’re not logged in? Maybe an incognito window?
Looks like it was an issue with me being logged in. I tried loading the site in a new browser, then loaded the Thank You page, and no slider! Thanks again.
ok, here’s a weird one… works GREAT generally…
but if i add the page id to NOT DISPLAY i get some weird results, depending – it seems – on the template of the particular page.
eg. on this page – http://www.lifecancerfree.com/freesession it does not appear – which is correct, and just the credit at the bottom shows up…
but on this page – http://www.lifecancerfree.com/jacquelyn-saves-lives on which is should also NOT appear, you can see the different result – it’s like it’s trying to load the css, but stops part way…
i’ve been over and over the 2 different templates (page.php and full-width-page.php)
would love a suggestion on where to look…
Are you using a cache plugin? It seems like you might have a stale cache…
Hi,
Awesome plugin.
I was able to exclude other pages/post with ID #. But is there any way to exclude the homepage from having the optincrusher showing? It seems like homepage or index.html does not have an ID # which is needed to exclude it.
Thanks.
There is not currently any way to exclude the homepage.
Hi Daniel,
I’m currently running WP3.3.1 as well. However, after I’ve installed, there wasn’t any faults but OptinCrusher would not appear. I tried with 2 different themes and both did not appear.
I’ve checked the footer and the code was in it. Any other places to troubleshoot?
Thanks
Did you try the troubleshooter?
how do you have optincrusher email your own website email. i dont want to use the services like aweber.
If your email solution creates an optin form, you can paste that into my plugin and it will display. There’s no need to choose a premium service, but I highly recommend it. Consider mailchimp. they’re free forever.
thanks for getting back with me. I did not know MailChimp was free thanks.
I would like to have the optincrusher send email to my email account. Are there instructions on how to do that.
By the way your videos are excellent. That ink scape is a good program.
There is not any way to do that. You might want to look at a contact form like cforms and then you could just put a link in the optincrusher pointing to your contact us page.
Wanted to tell you (Daniel) how groovy your optin footer + plugin IS!
Takes a real deep thinker to come up with all those angles. I watched all the videos blew me away how many settings and customize options are available.
I will come back and tell you how good of a job the plugin is doing, couple of weeks….
already know good, lets talk about kick butt List building is so important and not an easy job you have made it groovy
Thanks.
DonnieJ
thx daniel, I think this is the best plugin in opt-in email
I love the plugin, however I do have a problem. It displays at bottom, however the line that shows Name and Email has been cutoff to the point that it is not readable. Thank you for the plugin. I will await your response since I am very anxious to start using it on my blogs.
In this case you can probably just make the submit button a regular input of type=submit rather than an image. That usually takes care of it.
Hi Daniel
Thanks for the great plugin!! it is working out of the box.
There is just one small problem i still have.
The function to exclude pages:
-i am using page name, not the ID
-what exactly has to be copied into the box? http//www,example.com/home or just home?
I have been trying in and out, but i couldent get it working.
Thanks for your help
Chris
Even when you have permalinks set to use postname or some other combination, each post/page still has an ID. You can see it in the URL when you edit that page. You’ll need to type that number in.
Hi, Daniel. Hope you’re doing well today.
I’ve installed the optincrusher in my blog (localhost at the moment) and I’m using the Twenty Eleven Theme version 1.4 (WordPress 3.4.2).
The thing is: whenever I test the plugin the Lightbox will appear behind the picture of the theme unless you scroll down till it shows only the Lightbox. Something might be wrong, right?
This is the HTML code I got from IContact and put in my blog:
E-mail
Primeiro Nome
The other thing is: in order to motivate people to leave theis names and emails in optincrusher I’m offering a free ebook. Is it possible to insert the image of my ebook in the icon “Free Ebook’ ?
Thanks for your help and sorry for the mistakes in English
Claudio Mota
Claudio, It’s difficult to say exactly since you don’t mention the website. There are other tutorials on this site that cover customizations to the plugin images. Those should help you…
Hello, Daniel.
Is it possible to remove the Lightbox from the plugin and leave only the footer?
In this case what should I remove from the HTML code so that the Lightbox won´t appear?
Tks for your help.
Claudio Mota
Claudio,
This should be easy to do. The easiest way would be to just remove the link on the thumbnail image. Search for showLightBox and remove those javascript calls.
Just an FYI to anyone else having trouble with the popup not showing: I tracked down the call to a bad FaceBook script in a sidebar widget. I used Chrome and showed the JavaScript console (Ctrl-shift-i then ‘console’) to track it down. No fault of OptinCrusher!
Oh, after typing that I see that Daniel already mentioned the JS console in Chrome.
I had to clear my WP Minify plugin cache as well to purge the bad script completely. Minify can complicate troubleshooting because it crunches all of the scripts together.
Thanks, Daniel, for the awesome plugin!
Hi Daniel…wow, when I saw SEOPressor by Daniel Tan using this plugin I said I gotta check this out. Will implement with one of my sites. Thanks.
Jason
Hi,
I excluded my home page in the settings, but the opt in is still showing,
What might be the problem?
Thank you
The only way to exclude the home page is to make the home page display a regular page and provide the ID for that page.
Hi Daniel – I just love the concept of your plug-in and really want to get it to work properly for me.
I’ve installed it as per instructions and integrated with AWeber. That part seems to be working fine. However, I have a couple of problems: First, on the pop up, I can’t change the size of the font. That’s not such a major problem I guess.
The bigger problem is the lightbox. It’s picking up the optin call to action copy,(and sizing and spacing it bizarrely,) as well as the optin lightbox message. How can I suppress the optin call to action from being shown on the lightbox? And/or change the spacing?
I’ve checked out some of your other subscribers sites and they work fine..So must be me, heh? But what???
Thanks Daniel
Lynne, I already replied to your other comment.
So sorry Daniel…..
But I can’t find your answer (or the original of my comment). Hate to be a pain, but can you just repeat it here for me please? Many thanks…
Found it! Sorrrrryyyy!
The plugin works great but here some issues.
We would like to use a single optin without redirecting our clients onto another page.
So after signup, we would like them to stay on the current page and prefer to have the bar retreat (if possible). Their bonus/free give away would be automatically sent out via email (after sign up).
This doesn’t seem possible with the generic set up.
What can we do?
Thanks for the answer
Chris, you may be able to create a form plus script that would accomplish this. That’s a bit outside the scope of the optincrusher since you can put any form you like in there.
NOt updating. I added the plugin and the optin form code. This worked. However, when I went back to change the ioptin code it did not change.
I also tried to change the “Appearance Settings” with my own thumbnail and a different background. It did not make the change.
The text for the lightbox message would not change either. I changed it and clicked save but it does not change.
I deleted the plugin and tried again but the original plugin was still there.
You need to add your HTML optin form.
I love this plugin. I’ve installed and created a custom icon. However I am having one issue that I can’t seem to figure out. I am using Mailchimp for email and the current version won’t allow first name and email for the short form. In the optin footer, the input box for email is too far right. Also, how do I format the text in the light box the words aren’t stacked. Thanks for your reply!
Sometimes you need to strip out extra CSS and style information. Take the raw html form and make sure it doesn’t try to do any formatting.
I am not a programmer. Kinda confused about the language you’re using. Where would I find the raw html form and how do I know if it’s trying to do any formatting?
Would you mind taking a look at the site and let me know what you think it may be formatting? http://www.SheKnowsBiz.com
I’m running it successfully on all my sites and they’re up to date with WP 3.3.1 You might have a theme issue or some other problem that’s easily resolved. Give it another try.
Nope, I upgraded to WP 3.3.1 and still no go. Have tried with 3 different themes – still no luck..
This site is running WP 3.3.1 and the optincrusher is working fine. Maybe you could look at potential conflicts with other plugins?
